Ryan Murphy's first splashy project for Netflix is shaping up. On Friday, Netflix shared the first poster for the series as well as the release date, and there's surprisingly a lot to unpack before it debuts on Sept. 27.

In the streaming platform's official synopsis for the dark comedy, Dear Evan Hansen's Ben Platt plays wealthy Santa Barbara-based student Payton Hobart, who has "known since age seven that he's going to be President of the United States. But first he'll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School." In an effort to get "elected Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success," Payton will go toe to toe with ruthless classmates who we imagine will put Rachel Berry to shame.

Full of satire and plenty of the biting humor that Murphy has come to be known for thanks to shows like Glee, Scream Queens, and American Horror Story, it will be interesting to see if the creator really pushes the limits, creatively, now that he's on Netflix rather than FX. Of course, with The Politician's truly star-studded cast, it's hard to imagine the series will be anything other than must-watch viewing.

In addition to Platt, season one series regulars include heavy hitters like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, and Dylan McDermott, among many, many others.
