It's happening, people! Universal announced back in 2016 that a Wicked movie is officially in the works. After winning three Tony Awards in 2004 and practically launching the careers of musical legends Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, it goes without saying that Broadway fans everywhere are rejoicing. While there is no casting news yet on who will take on the iconic roles of Elphaba and Glinda, we already have a handful of details about the upcoming production — including a brand new release date! Even though she doesn't foresee herself reprising her role as Glinda, the actress did express an interest in being in the movie. "I would love to be in it in any capacity," she told People. "Maybe I'll play a munchkin this time."

The composer/lyricist for the original Broadway production is already on board for the project. Seeing that his past credits include Godspell, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Enchanted, you can rest assured the film is in good hands.

During an appearance at Comic-Con, Schwartz revealed that the movie will probably feature about four new songs — three that are newly written and one that was cut from the original Broadway show.
