13-years ago, after a nasty run-in with a self-righteous ENT, I decided to quit ignoring my disability and say fuck the haters. I’d been embarrassed by it, tried to hide it, and ignored it for too long. I took back my power. I promised myself and those I love that I would always do everything I could to lessen the impact of my hearing disability on their lives and, outside of that, if it’s a problem for people they can kick fucking rocks. It was one of the most important and empowering decisions I have ever made in my life and it absolutely changed me. If there is a change you need to make, just fucking do and worry about what happens later, when later happens.
