On Feb. 28, Kelly Clarkson delivered a gorgeous rendition of Robyn's 2010 hit "Dancing on My Own" during her Meaning of Life tour in Dallas. The 36-year-old singer told the crowd that after many online requests from fans, she finally decided to lend her beautiful voice to a slowed-down version of the track.
"I'm pretty sure this is a cover from Robyn a long time ago, but it's Calum Scott. I love this song. I'm so excited about this song," Clarkson said to the audience. "I love getting turned on to new music that I didn't even know existed, and it's awesome. It's like seeing the movie Sixth Sense for the first time. Mind blown."
The song — which was indeed covered by Scott in 2016 — is about the pain of dancing alone at the club while watching an ex move on with someone else. "I think it's incredibly sad, which is why I love it," Clarkson added before crooning. Her performance was a part of her "A Minute and a Glass of Wine" segment, in which she drinks wine, chats with attendees, and sings popular songs by other artists. Recently, she nailed a rendering of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born hit "Shallow" during a show in Wisconsin. So clearly, Clarkson is a queen of covers.
