Emmy-nominated actress Maisie Williams, who plays the defiant Arya Stark on HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” this weekend posted a photo of her bloodied sneakers to her 7.7 million followers on Instagram.
Accompanying the photo was a farewell message to her fans: “Goodbye Belfast. Goodbye Arya. Goodbye ‘Game of Thrones.’ What a joy I’ve had. Here’s to the adventures to come #lastwomanstanding #barely #immasleepforthenextfouryears #justkiddingidontsleep.”
Exactly what does Williams mean by the hashtag “last woman standing”? Is she hinting that Arya survives Cersei (Lena Headey), Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and even her sister Sansa (Sophie Turner) in the battle for the Iron Throne? That would truly be something, considering Daenerys’s dragons, Cersei’s army and Sansa’s men of the north.
On a more mundane level, Williams could simply be saying that she was the last actress to wrap her scenes on the series.
With the series slated to return in 2019, fans — some 40,000 of which commented on Williams’ post — will have plenty to chew over.
