Corinne Hynes suffered a devastating loss in January of this year. Her fiancé, David Llewellyn, passed away at the age of 28 years old. They were raising their now 11-month old son, Jude, and while they were able to celebrate their son’s first birthday together, a brain tumor ultimately claimed his life.

While there’s nothing that can replace a father, Corinne received a letter from the Donor Family Care Service that delivered incredible news of its own:

David had saved five people’s lives.

In case that’s difficult to read:

“Dear Corrine, and family,

As promised, this letter contains information about those who have benefited following David’s donation.

Organ donation saves and transforms the lives of those lucky enough to receive a transplant. I am pleased to tell you that at the time of writing this letter five people have received an organ transplant.

A gentleman in his fifties who had been on the recipient waiting list for one year received a kidney and pancreas transplant. A young lady in her thirties who had been on the recipient waiting list for over five years also received a kidney transplant.

A gentleman in his fifties received a liver transplant, a young lady in her thirties received a double lung transplant and a gentleman in his fifties received a lifesaving heart transplant.

I hope that this information bring you some comfort and that you feel proud of the difference David has made to others through the gift of organ donation.

Thank you once again and please know that David’s gift can never be underestimated.”

Corinne shared the letter online along with David’s cousin, Faye Gatenby, to find a massive amount of support.

More importantly, the story has encouraged more and more people to sign up as donors. The National Health Service database that there are 5,951 patients waiting for donors in just the U.K., and the more people that sign up, the more people can help that number become manageable.

As for Corinne herself, we wish her the absolute best of luck raising Jude, and at the very least in an awful time, Corinne will one day be able to tell him about how his father saved multiple lives.
