Things that will be obsolete in the next 20 years thanks to technology (11 Photos) 1 Technology is all around us. Not just what we can see, but it’s swirling through the air over our head in the form of waves and currents and more specifically as satellites, UFOs and sharks with friggin’ laser beams. Trying to stay ahead of the technological rat race is a lesson in futility. Your only hope is to get out ahead of it. So, here are a few things people that know more than me are predicting to become obsolete within the next twenty years. 2 With Audi already set to release mirror-less cars in 2019, this one may be even closer than we think. The prevalence of cameras and detection systems seems to be making your car’s side mirrors needless accessories. 3 We’ve already gotten to the point as a society where almost no one carries around cash anymore. In a 2017 survey, TSYS found that only 120 out of 1,000 people preferred cash to cards. Credit cards, however, may become obsolete themselves soon as more people turn to smartphones and other gadgets to make their purchases. 4 Depending who you ask, this could be amazing or awful. In their place, scientists are moving on two options: jet injections and capsules. Jet injections will shoot the fluids through skin “faster than the speed of light.” New age capsules will contain tiny needles that get absorbed by the digestive system, and inject the drug into our bloodstreams. The jury is still out on how painful this might be. 5 According to people with way more knowledge on the subject than my mouse fondling self, various tasks will soon be replaced by tech that tracks hand or eye movement. There will be no cursors on the screen, no cords and no batteries to replace or recharge. 6 Amazon is rolling out the drone and I can’t wait for air dropped TV’s and boxes of books. What could go wrong, right? It sounds outlandish, but drone delivery is rapidly picking up steam and it’s not likely to slow down any time soon. 7 The smart home is the future. You no longer need to use a key to open your front door or your car. Almost all locks can be linked with smart technology now, allowing you to unlock things remotely with apps, voice controls and even retinal scans. In 20 years, kids may not even know what a key is. 8 Some areas have already begun banning the use of plastic bags—which is a total pain in the ass, but makes sense I guess. One of my groceries does this and I habitually forget my reusable bags and wind up buying new ones every time. It takes hundreds of years for those old school plastic bags to decompose, so it only makes sense we find a means or ridding ourselves of them. 9 This one may be a little misleading. Not all remote controls will be gone, but rather the old-school point and click candy bars with buttons. In their place will be tablets, smart phones or even voice controls. 10 Paper has been a dying industry for quite some time—sorry Dunder Mifflin. Smartphones, tablets and other handheld devices are slowly take over and most even allow security measures to be locked with finger and facial scans. That being the case, it’s only a matter of time until these scans are acceptable as signatures. 11 Apple didn’t start the wireless trend, but removing the head jack from their phones certainly signaled the move was in full force. Now you can even charge phones and other devices wirelessly. With so many technological advances, it’s not a stretch to imagine a future in which no consumer electronics needs to be corded.
