Minnesota radio DJ inspires to help local hospitals 1 Hospitals are the scariest places to be for nearly everybody. When people are checked in, fear and uncertainty doesn’t just hit the patient, but the friends and family that accompany them as well. When KDWB 101.3 host Dave Ryan paid a visit to a local hospital, he noticed that the family room was missing anything to serve as a distraction to those waiting for their loved ones. 2 The set up of most hospital waiting rooms. 3 Thirty minutes after tweeting what he found at the hospital, the Chive Minnesota chapter responded with a plan. 4 With the help of local brewery Omni Brewing Co, collection barrels were up for a week gathering toiletries and items like coloring books, knitting supplies, blankets – all to help comfort those in the hospital waiting in stressed situations. 56 Great shots, Allen! 7 Thanks to social media, one tweet sparked a group of people to get together and help a situation in need. One visit prompted a collective random act of kindness. When everything was said and done, 11 family rooms on the University of Minnesota medical center were stocked with the items collected and are already being making the hospital waiting experience more manageable. A few notes received recently by the U of M staff: “Thank you so much for the blanket. Wrapping up in the blanket feels like a big hug from my husband that is too sick to hug me right now.” “Please tell Chive that this donation means the world to me. I am here every day visiting my Mom and this is just what I needed to get me through the day.” 891011 RAKit Week 2018 kicks off Monday, and stories like this one are the backbone of what makes this community great.
