“The Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino isn’t what you see on MTV. The party king recently refocused his “gym, tan, laundry” routine to “gym, tan, keto” — a low-carb diet centered around burning fat. Now known as “The Keto Guido,” the 30-year-old uses his time off from club appearances and filming “Jersey Shore Family Vacation: Part 2” to detox in his Staten Island hometown. Here, he tells MARISA DELLATTO how he keeps calm on the weekends at home.
I pretty much wake up, go to the gym. I’ll do a boxing workout, usually. There’s a gym called DeMarco’s Boxing. It’s a small, all-about-the-grind boxing gym, it’s not fancy. Or I’ll play basketball at LA Fitness and get a little bit of a lift in.
When you’re Keto or trying to follow any diet plan, you have to revolve your day around food. If you don’t have a plan, you’re going to mess up. After the gym, I have my first meal. There’s a place called A&C. It’s a local kind of Italian place that we go to around here in the neighborhood. That’s where I get some food, and usually I’m [also] preparing my meal for dinner. I’ll go get a steak or a fish [for later], as well as a shake or a salad [for lunch].
It’s summertime now, so in my midday I will take my dog, Tita, in the pool. She’s a pit bull mix, I rescued her from North Shore Animal League on Long Island. She loves to swim. I get to have my second workout, get some sun and get her exercise, too.
My uncle Angelo owns a hair salon on Staten Island. It’s called Salon Gioia. My mom works there. There’s always family there. It’s a central spot where we all meet up and go in and out of. I might go over there and get my eyebrows threaded.
Because my job is to go out, I do it sparingly in my regular time. I’m not a huge partier. [If] it’s a fun weekend, [I’m] probably going out in Manhattan to a place like 1 Oak, one of my favorite clubs. I might start at Bounce. Bounce is more like a sports bar and it’s open during the day. I get there at like 10 o’clock. But I always end up at 1 Oak.
Lately, I’ve just been chilling out. I have not drank. Our life can get pretty crazy, and I’m all about balance. I have to find my “me time” in between the madness we’re doing right now.
