“Honestly, I thought it would be a quick thing, like I’d do a few mashups with familiar Pokémon, and nobody would care, and I’d go back to doing my normal stuff. Then some people started following along online and offering encouragement and it became this personal challenge to see how far I could go, sort of a hell gauntlet of my own design.”

“It was also, weirdly, kind of an interesting design challenge…working with the recognizable Pokémon shapes and the really really limited palette of Garfield elements (big eyes, yellow mouth thing, striped tail, etc) and trying to blend them in a hundred different ways that looked semi-unique. Some are more successful than others, some just look like orange Pokémon with droopy eyes, but I swear I tried!”
But it clearly worked out. As he progressed through the generations of Pokémon, you can see more of the Garfield universe introduced. For example, Garfby: a Magby hybrid made with both Garfield and Arlene.
