Prepare yourself for the most adorable story you’ll read on the internet today.
Last week Australian native Kerry McKinnon came across the most unsuspecting site. Kerry lives in Western Victoria where temperatures can reach close to freezing over night. When it’s this cold Kerry lets her golden retrievers in the house for warmth. On this particularly frigid evening, Kerry’s husband decided to let the dogs in and noticed something unusual curled up in the golden retriever’s fur.

“It was quite early in the morning, and my husband yelled out to me to come have a look at something,” Kerry, 45, told the local news. “I didn’t know what he was talking about at first but then I saw this tiny koala snuggled on top of Asha [golen retriever].”

Kerry was completely caught off guard but was proud of her dog for letting the baby snuggle up to her for warmth. “I just burst out laughing. Poor Asha didn’t know what to think, she just kept looking at me with such a confused look,” McKinnon added. “She looked a bit guilty when I came out to see what was going on. Her expression was hilarious.”

With the freezing temperatures out, there was no way the baby koala would have survived without the aide of Asha. “Asha definitely saved the koala’s life by keeping him warm. He would have died out there if left alone all night. The poor thing could have been taken by a fox or something too.” Kerry said it “wasn’t easy” separating the two, as the koala put up a “huge fuss” when she tried to remove it from Asha’s back.

After taking the baby koala to get checked out by the vet, a local koala care unit took over from there where they will eventually release the koala back into the wild.
