We started theCHIVE in Venice Beach, California. Every other year or so we’d wake up to the pungent smell of smoke in the air and a grey haze over the boardwalk that definitely wasn’t smog. Off in the distance you knew another wildfire had sparked and spread. But nothing quite like the fires happening now in Los Angeles and Northern California.

Nearly 70 people have perished in the fires, and there are over 600 people unaccounted for. The Woolsey and Camp Fire are the deadliest fires in state’s history.

It’s affecting pets as well as people. A record number of animals have been displaced, local pet shelters are at capacity and many horses have been relocated to temporary shelters on the beach.

Firefighters in California are tasked with containing the deadly blazes, saving homes, and saving lives while they risk their own.

As the fires spread, we know the Chive Community must rally once again when it matters most. It’s time to step up to aid the massive effort back in our home state. We have a plan to move forward with today with a little help from our friends.

Our designers have created a t-shirt for charity that I think is nothing short of amazing – the California grizzly bear meets the thin red line. It let’s everybody know that, no matter where you are, you’re supporting our firefighters.

We’ll be donating to two charities, The Wildland Firefighter Foundation and the California Fire Foundation in order to get help to firefighters and their families in both affected regions.
We’re donating 100% of profits from California Strong Thin Red Line to charity. And we’ve got some reinforcements from UV Vodka. In honor of UV’s +1 approach to the perfect cocktail, they will be donating an additional $1 for every t-shirt sold up to $2,000. Thank you.
