Shannara-Chronicles.jpg

Based on the fantasy book series by Terry Brooks, The Shannara Chronicles follows an Elvin princess, a human-elf hybrid, and a human rover as they fight to protect the Four Lands from banished demons that threaten to escape. We'll leave it up to you to decide for yourself, but these demonic hordes might be even creepier than GoT's White Walkers.

Last-Kingdom.jpg

This medieval drama series is an adaptation of Bernard Cornwell's The Saxon Stories, which is set in 9th century AD when England was divided into seven separate kingdoms. The show is centered around Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who seeks vengeance after his brother is killed by the invading Danes, and we dare you to argue that Uhtred doesn't remind you even a little bit of Jon Snow.

Frontier.jpg

In this Canadian historical drama, Game of Thrones alum Jason Momoa (also known as Khal Drogo) stars as American outlaw Declan Harp, who attempts to take down the Hudson's Bay Company's monopoly on the fur trade in the late 18th century. Declan Harp's heavy furs aren't quite as revealing as Khal Drogo's Dothraki garb, but we can promise you that it's just as sexy.

Cathedral-Sea.jpg

Based on the novel by Ildefonso Falcones, this Spanish-language period drama follows a fugitive serf and his quest to ascend to a high status in Medieval Barcelona's caste system during the height of the Spanish Inquisition. Just like GoT, Cathedral of the Sea provides plenty of backstabbing, social climbing, and gruesome revenge.

Knightfall.jpg

Based in the early 14th century, Knightfall offers a fictionalized take on the persecution of the Knights Templar, a Catholic military order closely linked to the Crusades. The historical drama is centered on Templar leader Landry du Lauzon, who's played by Downton Abbey's Tom Cullen, and with much of the filming done in Croatia, you'll definitely be getting some major King's Landing vibes.

Reign.jpg

Reign follows the fictitious exploits of Mary, Queen of Scots, against the backdrop of the rising religious conflict between Catholics and Protestants and the threat of the rival House of Bourbon for the throne of France. The fight for the throne in this historical romantic drama isn't nearly as bloody as Game of Thrones, but it's definitely plenty sexy.

Borgias.jpg

This historical-fiction drama tells the story of the titular Borgias, a family of outsiders from Spain who try to take over control of 16th-century Renaissance-era Italy through the use of any means possible, including bribery, extortion, torture, and even murder. If you think Cersei Lannister is ruthless, just wait until you meet Lucrezia Borgia.

Marco-Polo.jpg

Inspired by famed Italian explorer Marco Polo's early years in the court of Kublai Khan in 13th-century Mongolia, this series has all of the warfare and sexual intrigue of GoT with the added bonus of real-life historical events. Filming for the show took place in everywhere from Italy to Kazakhstan to Malaysia, making for some incredible cinematography.

Resurrection-Ertugrul.jpg

This Turkish historical adventure series (based on the real-life history of the 13th-century Muslim Oghuz Turks) follows the life of warrior Ertugrul, the father of Ottoman Empire founder Osman I. GoT fans are guaranteed to love this one, with plenty of bloody skirmishes between Ertugrul and the enemies of the sultan and endless eye candy.

Versailles.jpg

Though this Franco-Canadian historical fiction series is far more sexy than action-packed, there's still plenty of drama as the French nobility rises up against the monarchy during the construction of King Louis XIV's massive Palace of Versailles. If you're looking for betrayal, power wars, and shocking sex scenes, then this one's for you.
